About
Welcome to my website, my name is Jennifer Hewson and I work primarily with brush pens, ergo the signature Brushpennifer was born.

I am drawn to the bright colours and interesting textures found in nature such as birds, flowers & coral reefs. Working with brush pens enables me to quickly choose a colour and make a mark; instinctively responding to the subject's spirit rather than the objective reflection.
I find that working quickly with free flowing movements helps to express the ever shifting natural world around us: wings in flight, petals in the breeze, a change in current.
My Story
Born and based in Yorkshire, I graduated from Hull School of Art and Design with a First Class Honours in Fine Art. Here I exhibited "Chlorophyll Cousins", 300+ plant inspired graphite powder drawings. Through tactile movement of the medium, the essence of each plant was liberated from their static structure and a new framework formed around me.
Since then, the affinity between biology and art has always been integral to my practice. By dissecting shapes and colours in nature, I enhance qualities often missed. I aim to showcase those glimmers around us; a reminder to emerge from synthetic overthinking and nestle back into our somatic experience of the world.
